aboutPaf

In 2005 the Dutch Directors Guild (DDG) and the Nederlandse Vereniging van Speelfilmproducenten (NVS, Association of Dutch feature film producers) founded the Pressiegroep Auteursfilm (PAf, Pressure group Arthouse film). The objectives are:

  1. To develop the quality and increase the volume, of the (co-)production of arthouse films
  2. Improvement of conditions for arthouse films: (film)education, distribution,
exploitation, research, international release & promotion, marketing in general.

PAf's definition of arthouse films: Arthouse films distinguish themselves from other films in the authenticity that comes from the personal vision of the filmmaker(s) and by explicit choices of form and subject, often accompanied by a personal and often stubborn cinematography.

In the past few years, PAf has been lobbying for an increased production budget for arthouse films. In its new film-policy, announced in 2006, the Dutch government emphasized the importance of arthouse film, for the first time in years. This resulted in an extra financial impulse for the production of this type of film.

Besides focusing on the details of the mentioned film-policy, PAf started a Filmclub: brainstorm sessions about the position of arthouse films, with persons from other cultural disciplines such as politics, science and journalism. The objective is to get inspired by best practices from others and to further create a platform for Dutch arthouse films.
